Getting started
As the designated regional planning agency in northeastern Illinois, the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMAP) is committed to effectively assessing the needs of the 284 communities within our jurisdiction. Our biennial survey of municipal governments supports a variety of agency priorities including measuring demand for various types of technical assistance (TA), informing policy analysis, and tracking implementation of regional goals.
Our last survey - completed in 2024 - boasted an outstanding response rate of over 87% from our partner municipalities. CMAP looks forward to another great response this year. Thank you in advance for your contributions to this important effort!
Survey Instructions
The 2026 Municipal Survey opens Monday, September 14, 2026, at 9:00 A.M (CT). Each municipality will be emailed links to the survey and are encouraged to fill out the survey as soon as possible. The survey closes on Friday, October 9, 2026, at 5:00 P.M. (CT).
ONLINE: Municipalities are encouraged to complete the survey by following this link.This is the preferred method of completing the survey.
FILLABLE PDF: If the online method is not an option for your municipality, you may fill this PDF version and return it by email to municipalsurvey@cmap.illinois.gov.
PRINT:You may also print and complete the survey, then return the completed survey to CMAP offices located at: Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMAP) 433 W. Van Buren St. Suite 450 Chicago, IL 60607
