Project Background

The Central Council of Mayors, which compromises 15 communities in west Cook County, is conducting a study to address flooding and stormwater impacts on the transportation system. With support from the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMAP), the Central Council will build upon their transportation plan by identifying priority flood improvement areas and where these needs coincide with planned transportation projects. Coordinating stormwater and transportation improvements will allow the Central Council communities to invest capital funds in a resilient, efficient, and cost-effective way.

The project team will first conduct a broad assessment of the transportation system in the Central Council region, including roads, bridges, transit, and freight, and a detailed examination of the project locations outlined in the existing transportation plan. Then, the team will outline capital project types, policy solutions, and areas requiring further study. The result of this process will be a transportation resilience plan that identifies flood vulnerabilities and potential projects to increase the resiliency of the transportation system in the Central Council region.
