Project Overview

The Villages of Lombard, Downers Grove, Oak Brook, and DuPage County are working with the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMAP) on a collaborative effort to develop a Butterfield Road Corridor Plan that will focus on:

  • Enhancing the corridor’s Pace bus service and making it easier to walk to bus stops.
  • Improving roadway safety for cars, buses, pedestrians, and bicyclists.
  • Enhancing multi-modal connections between the corridor and nearby parks and open space.
  • Exploring future housing and commercial development opportunities.

Project Study Area

The Butterfield Road Corridor is a regional retail destination that encompasses the Yorktown Center, a large number of national retailers, as well as office, industrial and residential developments. The corridor is an economic driver for the surrounding Villages and DuPage County.

The project study area specifically focuses on a portion of Butterfield Road (IL-56), bounded by both sides of 22nd Street to the north, I-88 to the south, Kingery Highway (IL-83) to the east, and I-355 to the west.
