Welcome to the City of Berwyn Accessibility Improvements Engagement Platform. The goal is to improve safety and accessibility for everyone who uses our sidewalks, including people with disabilities, and make our sidewalks and pedestrian facilities fully accessible to all individuals. Our aim is to develop a comprehensive Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) public right-of-way (PROW) transition plan that ensures that the transportation infrastructure, services, and programs within our municipality are fully accessible for all residents. If you or your loved ones use sidewalks in Berwyn, we need your help!

No one knows your community better than you, so we invite you to join us in this important effort.

WE NEED YOUR HELP!

  1. Review the draft Citywide Prioritization Map of ADA Improvements
    • Pedestrian facilities were prioritized based on their proximity to community assets (schools, parks, public transit, etc.) and traffic safety (traffic signals, railroad crossings, etc.)
      • CLICK HERE, to view the draft copy of the prioritization map.
    • Pedestrian facilities were prioritized based on their physical condition. The highest priority was placed on sidewalks, curb ramps, etc. that limit pedestrians' ability to travel around the city.
      • CLICK HERE, to view the draft copy of the prioritization map.
  2. Answer a short survey to provide comments and feedback
    • Tell us your thoughts and opinions on the draft prioritization maps, CLICK HERE.
  3. Place a pin - Tell us where you face challenges traveling around the city:

  4. Attend a meeting - Join us for an open house meeting between 6pm and 8pm on September 25th at the PAV YMCA.
  5. View the presentation to the Committee of the Whole

This plan will serve as a strategic roadmap for identifying and assessing barriers that currently impede accessibility on roads, sidewalks, crosswalks and other components of the public right-of-way. By integrating community feedback with detailed assessments, we will pinpoint specific challenges and develop practical, innovative solutions to enhance accessibility. These solutions will focus on the sidewalk sections that pose the greatest barrier to access in areas that are likely to receive high amounts of pedestrian activity.

Throughout the planning process there will be opportunities to provide feedback on the greatest challenges associated with traveling in your community and where you want to go, this will help establish a vision for the future of pedestrian travel around the city. Your input will help shape a more inclusive environment where everyone can participate and engage fully.

The planning process starts with a complete inventory of the existing sidewalks, curb ramps, bus stops, and traffic signals throughout the city. So don’t be surprised if you see us walking around over the next couple of months!

  • We want to gain a better understanding of the challenges pedestrians face when walking around the City of Berwyn.

    1. Are there certain intersections that you don't feel safe crossing?
    2. Are there intersections where you think new street crossing need to be added?
    3. Is there a block in the city where the existing condition of the sidewalk can be dangerous to pedestrians?
