2026 Regional Transportation Plan

Lake, Porter, and LaPorte counties, Indiana.">Greater ChicagoThe <a href="https://cmap.illinois.gov/wp-content/uploads/CCAP-one-pager.pdf" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">comprehensive climate action plan</a> will identify key actions needed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from all major sources and align the greater Chicago region with national net-zero emissions goals by 2050. This is a national goal to avoid the worst impacts of climate change.This plan covers 13 counties and 3 states in Greater Chicago. It will build on previous climate action plans from across the region, creating a coordinated strategy to equitably reduce emissions and address climate impacts in low-income and disadvantaged communities.The Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMAP), the Metropolitan Mayors Caucus, and the Northwestern Indiana Regional Planning Commission (NIRPC) are creating this plan together. This work is supported, in part, by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency&rsquo;s Climate Pollution Reduction Grants program and will be completed by December 2025. <h2>Outreach and engagement</h2>Achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions will require action across all sectors of the economy. Developing a plan to coordinate this work will similarly require collaboration among policy makers, implementers, community leaders, and other stakeholders.The project team has convened five distinct groups to guide and inform the development of the plan:<ul><li>Steering committee</li><li>Equity working group</li><li>Buildings working group</li><li>Industry working group</li><li>Transportation working group</li></ul>See below for materials related to these project groups, including meeting notes, presentations, and memoranda.

Comprehensive Climate Action Plan for Greater Chicago

The Congestion Management Process (CMP) a systematic and regionally-accepted approach for managing congestion that provides accurate, up-to-date information on transportation system performance and assesses alternative strategies for congestion management that meet the state, regional, and local needs.As the Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) for northeastern Illinois, the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMAP) is responsible for maintaining a CMP as part of the metropolitan transportation planning process. The process to update the CMP will be guided by a Resource Group made up of federal and state regulatory agencies, county transportation agencies, transit providers, non-governmental organizations and subject-matter experts.The Resource Group will provide input into each of the key components of the CMP. These components include: identifying objectives and performance measures; developing the process for analyzing congestion, and; identifying strategies and recommendations for implementation. Project deliverables will include a guidebook and corridor study template, which will be focused on strategy implementation, prioritizing strategies that align with and support other regional policy goals.This page will store all materials related to the resource group, including meeting notes, presentations, and more.
