The Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMAP) is working together with the City of Joliet and other stakeholders to study potential improvements at the Laraway Road at-grade crossing of the Union Pacific Railroad and the accompanying highway section from Brandon Road to IL Route 53 in the City of Joliet.

Using technical information and public engagement, the study identified a range of solutions to address delay, safety, and freight network reliability. The alternatives include grade separations and other options. We are seeking public input regarding the project Purpose and Need and the Alternatives to Carry Forward for further study. For a quick overview, download the Laraway Road Project Brochure!

Laraway Road at UPRR At-Grade Crossing Interactive Map

almost 4 years

We'd like your input.

  • Show us where issues are that we need to be aware of during our study, or pose questions about particular sites we need to consider.
  • Please place, then drop pins on the maps to indicate the locations.
  • Access the pins using the + "plus sign" on the left menu after you open the map (or the bottom if you are using a smartphone).
  • The pins are categorized to help you tell us the type of concern you have.
  • You can zoom out or zoom in as needed so you can find the right location to mark.
  • Once you place a pin, you can optionally add a comment or even add a photo to clarify your concern.

While the project study limits are Brandon Road to IL Route 53, including the grade crossing, please let us know about any location relevant to this study, even if it's outside the study limits.  An example would be a truck-trip generator that requires trucks to travel over the grade crossing.

Thank you!
