Fall 2024 Community Survey

This survey is part of the West Cook Bicycle & Pedestrian Plan project currently being undertaken jointly by Bellwood, Berkeley, Broadview, Hillside and Westchester. The project will develop a plan to enhance pedestrian and bicycle safety in the five communities.

We want to hear from the people who know the neighborhoods best: you – the people who live and work there! The following survey should take less than ten minutes to complete and will help us identify areas and intersections to focus on.

Participation is voluntary and entirely anonymous. If you have any questions about the survey or about the project, please contact franny.ritchie@samschwartz.com.

Thank you for your time!

Project Types: Overview

We are in the process of developing recommendations for the West Cook Bicycle & Pedestrian Plan based on our review of the current conditions in the area and what we’ve heard from the West Cook communities so far. We want to create a plan that is actionable – and that means recommending infrastructure improvements that can actually be funded at a local, state, or federal level. Keeping in mind funding resources can be limited, we want to know what type of investments YOU think your community should make: Many small projects? A few big projects? A mix of both?

'Small' Improvement Projects

Small improvement projects have lower costs and are usually easier to implement quickly. This may include installing wayfinding signage, ground murals, landscaping, high visibility crosswalks, or even ‘quick build’ projects that only require paint and posts (pictured left).

'Big' Improvement Projects

Big improvement projects have higher costs and may have longer timelines. This may include constructing a sidepath along a major road (pictured left), redesigning a complicated intersection, or filling in sidewalk gaps.
