Welcome to the Greater Ashburn Safety Action Plan project website!
Our goal is to develop a plan that improves traffic safety for all road users - aiming to eliminate serious injuries and deaths caused by traffic crashes in Greater Ashburn. |
The Greater Ashburn Development Association (GADA) is working with the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMAP) to create a safety action plan for the Greater Ashburn community area. The goal of the plan is to eliminate deaths and serious injuries caused by traffic crashes in Greater Ashburn. The plan’s recommendations for achieving this goal will be informed by data analysis, community input, and best practices.
The Greater Ashburn Safety Action Plan will use a Safe Systems approach—a framework that uses preventative, multi-layered strategies to prevent crashes from happening in the first place while reducing harm when they do occur. As shown in the figure, a safe systems approach prioritizes the elimination of fatal and severe traffic crashes among all road users, focusing on those that are most vulnerable, including people walking and bicycling. |
Input from community members is essential to understanding traffic safety issues in Ashburn and creating a successful safety action plan. You can share your input or experiences at in-person project events and through online activities.
During the planning process, the project team will organize events and activities to engage with and listen to residents, local organizations, and other stakeholders in Greater Ashburn.

Add Your Traffic Safety Concerns
We want to know where you have traffic safety concerns in Ashburn! Are there certain roads, streets, or intersections that are difficult to drive, walk, or bike on or through? Are there places you avoid because the route has unsafe conditions? Place a pin on the map and add a comment to describe where and why certain locations feel unsafe when it comes to traffic safety.
