The project team finalized the Greater Ashburn Safety Action Plan in the summer of 2025 with the board of the Greater Ashburn Development Association (GADA) adopting the plan in September 2025.
The plan includes recommendations to make neighborhood streets safer for everyone — whether walking, biking, driving, or taking transit. The plan identifies priority areas in the community and provides relevant strategies. Highlights include traffic calming near schools and parks, enhanced pedestrian crossings, safety upgrades at rail crossings, and infrastructure investments on major corridors such as 79th Street, Cicero Avenue, and Western Avenue.
Local agencies and implementation partners are responsible for making these improvements a reality. This includes GADA, the 18th Ward, the Illinois Department of Transportation, the Chicago Department of Transportation, transit agencies, and districts that manage local schools, parks, and forest preserves.
In addition to this neighborhood-level plan, the Cook County Safety Action Plan qualifies local governments in the county to apply for federal Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) implementation funding.

This survey is part of the Greater Ashburn Safety Action. The project will develop a plan to enhance traffic safety for all roadway users, aiming to eliminateall deaths and serious injuries resulting from traffic crashes in Ashburn.
The survey should take less than ten minutes to complete and will help us identify key traffic safety concerns and priorities in the community.Participation is voluntary and entirely anonymous.
