In conjunction with Elevated Chicago, Palenque LSNA is collaborating with the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMAP) and the RTA to develop a station area plan around the CTA Blue Line Logan Square station. The plan will be guided by principles of equitable transit-oriented development (ETOD) as a means of developing collaborative, community-led solutions to address neighborhood displacement and inequities, particularly incorporating CMAP’s regional ON TO 2050 Principles of resiliency, inclusive growth, and prioritized investment. Strategies will align with and complement current projects and initiatives being undertaken by Palenque LSNA, Logan Square Preservation, CDOT, and other

The Logan Square community will be engaged at various points throughout the planning process to ensure the ideas, needs, and concerns of residents, business owners, and local stakeholders are integrated into strategies for the station area.

  • Plan wins "Advancing Diversity and Social Change Award" from APA-IL

    On September 11, 2023 the Illinois Chapter of the American Planning Association (APA-IL) awarded its first ever prize to a plan for "Advancing Diversity and Social Change" to the Logan Square Blue Line ETOD plan. Congrats to all who collaborated on this outstanding project.

  • Interview Workshop w/ Palenque Fellows

    On October 8th, at Grace Church on Wrightwood, CMAP met with Palenque LSNA fellows for an interview workshop. Using the skills and interview design used during our interviews on Palenque LSNA's back porch, CMAP planners set out to show Palenque fellows our methods and strategies to keep discussions on topic while allowing interviewees the space and comfort to share their own narratives.

    On September 22nd and 29th, Palenque LSNA offered CMAP staff the opportunity to use their back porch to host interviews with community stakeholders. For each interview, we partnered senior CMAP staff with Planners to document what was said in both Spanish and English. These interviews were integral to the fidelity of the project to the residents of Logan Square.

    On September 18th, CMAP held a table at the Logan Square Farmers' Market to meet with community residents. We asked passers-by what their favorite local stores and restaurants are, and with a few held a deeper discussion regarding those that are no longer in business.

    On August 6th, CMAP was one of the groups, including the Shedd Aquarium, that tabled Palenque LSNA's Youth Fest in Humboldt Park. There Logan Square's youth were able to talk with the project team and color in their own LSNA/CMAP tote bags.

    On the first of August, CMAP hosted a gathering of Logan Square residents and community organizations to discuss ongoing issues related to gentrification and to look over the first draft of an Existing Conditions Report Executive summary.

    On May 21st, CMAP held an engagement table at Palenque Fest, hosted by Palenque LSNA. CMAP offered canvas tote bags to passersby, commissioned by a local artist, as compensation for sharing their lived experiences being in Logan Square and adjacent communities. These tote bags were decorated with a design that champions what the Logan Square Blue Line Action Plan is all about which how to eliminate the displacement that follows new development in a previously underinvested community.

    On May 4th, Palenque LSNA visited CMAP’s offices and met with the planning team who presented their findings at the time from previous studies and outlined future engagement opportunities and strategies. Palenque LSNA spoke about their love for the Logan Square community, their biggest concerns regarding its future, and what they miss about things that are no longer present.
