Bike Lane Striping & Wayfinding on Collector Roads
The Village proposes to stripe shared or separated bike lanes on wide Village owned collector roadways (roadways that connect 2 arterial roadways) to improve safety and encourage active transportation. Pavement markings and directional wayfinding signage to connect neighborhoods to existing trails and parks will be included.
Village owned collector roadways include Central Avenue, 216th Street, Main Street, 207th Street, and Allemong Drive. The final design, specifying separated (Class II) or shared (Class III) bike lanes, will be determined by a comprehensive engineering analysis of existing roadway widths, traffic volumes, and adherence to current Village and state safety standards.
Median Landscaping
The Village proposes to install decorative, salt-tolerant landscaping in medians along the major corridors of US 30/Lincoln Highway. This project would include planting trees, shrubs, and seasonal flowers, as well as adding irrigation and maintenance plans to ensure long-term sustainability.
This work will build upon the ongoing US 30/Cicero Avenue Intersection Improvement project to complete the Village of Matteson gateway corridor.

Community Banner & Streetscape Program
The Village proposes to install decorative banners and pole-mounted lighting along Cicero Avenue and US 30/Lincoln Highway that reflect Matteson’s identity. The Village will include seasonal or thematic designs and upgrade poles to accommodate banners.
Trailhead Enhancements for Old Plank Road Trail (Preservation Path)
The Village proposes to add benches, trash cans, bike racks, and signage at 4 key trail access points along the Preservation Path multi-use trail, which runs approximately 2.5 miles through the Village of Matteson. This will include improved parking and visibility at trailheads that the Village maintains from Caboose Park westward to Main Street. The specific access points to receive these enhancements are:
- Caboose Park Trailhead (Matteson Avenue and Main Street)
- Kostner Avenue Crossing
- Cicero Avenue Crossing
- Main Street (The endpoint of the project area near the junction of Main Street and the trail)
Tennis Court Resurfacing & Pickleball Conversion
The Village proposes to enhance 3 existing municipal park sites by resurfacing and adding pickleball striping to current tennis courts. This targeted improvement will increase the usage and accessibility of these courts across Matteson. The courts to be improved are located at:
- Oakwood Park, at 207th Street (near the Matteson Area Public Library).
- Memorial Park, near Sauk Trail and Cicero Avenue.
- Woodgate Park located in the Woodgate subdivision (near the Village's eastern border).
Trail Paving
The Village proposes to repave the internal walking paths/trails within two neighborhood parks: Woodgate Park, located within the Woodgate subdivision (near the Village's eastern boundary) and Oakwood Park, Located at 207th Street, adjacent to the Matteson Area Public Library and the Preservation Path connection.
