The City of Crystal Lake is allowing NVA Transportation (located on Sands Rd) to expand their business to 275+ semi tractor trucks despite the Planning & Zoning Board as well as the City Council voting unanimously last year to deny their request for rezoning, stating it was the wrong place for a truck terminal. NVA property borders unincorporated residential property which have no sidewalks. Trucks routinely drive through the residential neighborhood.
I concur with others who brought up the fact that there is no safe way to get from Cardinal drive to Route 31 on Edgewood Drive. A beautiful bike trail takes you right there and then there is nothing. To safely cross Route 31 on Edgewood, you need the traffic light at that corner. It's very frustrating when you are trying to get to Dairy Queen (or other restaurants) with your kids on your bikes. Also, you need to cross the road there to pick up the Fox Valley Trailhead down the road.
The intersection of Ackman Road and Huntley Road is extremely busy and very dangerous.
The single stop sign on Ackman is obsolete and is definitely not an efficient way to control it's traffic.
There is a great need for a traffic light to control the ever growing number of vehicles using this intersection.
Route 14/Main Street curve by the Cary Metra Station is a nightmare. Inattentive/unaware drivers are causing frequent accidents at that stretch of road. It needs barriers to separate the lanes of traffic.
The bike trail going south from downtown Crystal Lake has become unsafe for walkers & runners. A dramatic increase of unsafe bikers, E-bikes & E scooters at high rates of speed and passing without the common sense to say “on your left” or give any warning or indication they are there. I brought the to the attention of 2 MCCD Police officers and was told it is known and speed limit signs are being placed. I appreciate this effort but unfortunately it’s a bandaid on a lager problem.
Thank you for your contribution!
